What Is AFL Gather Round?

First introduced in 2023, AFL Gather Round is a festival of football where all 18 AFL clubs play in South Australia across one weekend.

Inspired by events such as the NRL's Magic Round and English rugby league's Magic Weekend, Gather Round brings supporters from every club together to celebrate Australia's favourite game.

Unlike a regular AFL round, fans can experience multiple matches in one destination while enjoying Adelaide's restaurants, entertainment and regional attractions.

Since its introduction, Gather Round has become a highlight of the AFL calendar, combining blockbuster stadium matches with the unique atmosphere of suburban and country football.

Where Is AFL Gather Round Played?

One of Gather Round's biggest attractions is the variety of venues across South Australia.

Adelaide Oval

The heart of Gather Round. Adelaide Oval delivers major stadium atmosphere, iconic grandstands and some of the weekend's biggest fixtures, all within walking distance of central Adelaide.

Norwood Oval

Footy in the suburbs! With tight boundaries and supporters right on top of the action, Norwood Oval delivers an old-school atmosphere rarely experienced in modern AFL football.

Barossa Park

Country footy meets the AFL's biggest stars. Located in the picturesque Barossa Valley, Barossa Park gives supporters the opportunity to combine elite football with South Australia's famous food and wine region.

The Greatest AFL Gather Round Moments

Since 2023, Gather Round has delivered unforgettable moments both on and off the field.

2024: Harley Reid's Magic Moment

West Coast youngster Harley Reid produced one of the weekend's most memorable highlights, bursting clear of a stoppage and launching a spectacular running goal. The round also featured several nail-biting contests, including memorable moments from Patrick Cripps and Zak Butters.

2026: Essendon's Drought-Breaking Victory

Entering Gather Round on a 17-match losing streak, Essendon stunned the in-form Melbourne Demons with an extraordinary 45-point victory. For Bombers supporters, it was a day they'll never forget.
