Silverstone hosted the first round of the first Formula 1 World Championship on 13 May 1950, so the British Grand Prix is as old as the championship itself. The track began as the perimeter road of a wartime airfield and held its first proper motor race in 1947.
The lap is 5.891 km and Formula 1 counts it among the fastest on the calendar, with Maggotts, Becketts and Abbey the primary corners singled out. The lap record stands at 1:27.097, set by Max Verstappen in 2020.
Formula 1 has confirmed the Grand Prix’s 2027 sessions and days.
| Date | Session / Stage | Detail | Venue |

Silverstone sells general admission, general admission plus viewing areas, reserved grandstand seats and enclosures, and under the circuit's own terms a general admission or grandstand ticket also covers that evening's concert, the fan zones and the Silverstone Museum.
The day of the event, and if you choose multi-day event passes, primarily sets the starting price of a ticket, with location within the venue a further contributing factor. Sunday is race day and sits at the top of the single days, with Friday as the least expensive day pass, and the multi-day tickets reflect a bundled price.
Silverstone has more than 20 grandstands, and from 2027 some of them sell Prime View seats as well as standard ones. The Abbey stands face the first corner, and the circuit's own T1 enclosure seats its guests in Abbey B.
Copse, Becketts, Chapel, Luffield, Woodcote, Vale, Village and Club Corner each have their own stand, and the Racing Green hospitality area looks over Wellington Straight, Aintree, The Loop and Village.
General admission has named viewing spots too, at Chapel, Hangar Straight, Luffield, Becketts and Village, and general admission plus adds a dedicated standing area at Abbey, Copse or Vale.
The circuit runs its own shuttle network from nearby stations and towns, and asks everyone to book it in advance.
| Mode | Detail |
| Train plus shuttle | Circuit shuttles run from Milton Keynes (about 50 minutes), Northampton (40), Banbury (50), Oxford Parkway (50) and Coventry (80). Follow the signs at the station; the bus drops about two minutes from the Abbey and Brooklands entrances |
| Shuttle bus | Transfers also run from Towcester (about 15 minutes), Buckingham, Brackley, Bicester, Hinton and Sixfields. No parking is included |
| Park & Ride | Sites at Sixfields, Hinton and Bicester, with a shuttle ticket per person and a vehicle pass per car |
| Timing | Shuttles run inbound from 6.30am BST on Friday and Saturday and 5.30am on Sunday, and outbound until 11pm (10.30pm on Sunday). Allow extra time on race day |
Check National Rail for engineering works before you travel.
A Sprint weekend gives you two exciting race opportunities to attend. Friday's Sprint Qualifying sets Saturday's grid, Saturday's Sprint runs about 30 minutes with no mandatory pit stop, and the top eight score points before Grand Prix Qualifying later the same day. Sunday is the main Grand Prix race.
Between sessions there is F2 and F3 racing, an F1 Fanzone with simulators, a Family Zone and the Silverstone Museum, all included in the circuit's general admission and grandstand tickets. Each evening finishes with a concert on the main stage, and it has been announced that Robbie Williams opens the 2027 Grand Prix race weekend on the Thursday night.
